Best Online Shamanism Course
What if you could enter a parallel world to receive accurate guidance on the life situations you’re facing?
Learning Shamanism helps you gain greater clarity and insight into any number of life challenges, from medical issues to healing toxic relationships, even business and work struggles.
An excellent shamanism course will help you achieve that and much more.
The Shamanism online course that I recommend in this post is outstanding. I was blown away by how quickly I met my power animals and how much I enjoyed the meditations.

What is Shamanism
Shamanism is an ancient spiritual and healing tradition (or practice). It could be the oldest spiritual practice in the world, dating back tens of thousands of years. Cave art 30,000-years-old shows evidence of shamanic practices.
Encyclopaedia Britannica writes:
Shamanism, religious phenomenon centred on the shaman, a person believed to achieve various powers through trance or ecstatic religious experience. Although shamans’ repertoires vary from one culture to the next, they are typically thought to have the ability to heal the sick, to communicate with the otherworld, and often to escort the souls of the dead to that otherworld.
In shamanism, you listen to a drumbeat or other rhythmic percussion to enter an altered state of consciousness (like in meditation) and access spiritual guidance and healing.
Some traditions also use rattles, sticks, and bells.
Here is a great video from the Findhorn Foundation with Sandra Ingerman.
Sandra is a world-renowned teacher of shamanism and has been teaching for close to 40 years. And she is the author of the course I’m recommending in this post!
Definition of Shamanism with Sandra Ingerman
I read in some articles that Shamanism is a religious phenomenon, but I’m not sure this is meant in the strict sense of what religion means. Because Shamanism is not a formalized system of belief, it is traditionally associated with indigenous and tribal societies.
Shamanism has been practiced by many cultures and religions over the world, from Christianity, to Judaism, to Hinduism.
You can find shamanic practitioners of every faith.
How to become a Shaman. Can anyone be a shaman?
I believe that if you are drawn to shamanism is for a reason, and with experience and training, you can become a shaman.
In Shamanic Journeying: A Beginners Guide, Ingerman writes that it is not typical for someone to identify as a shaman. Rather, someone is chosen by the spirits to become a shaman and to act in the service of her or his community.
In shamanic cultures, it is actually considered bad luck to call yourself a shaman, because this is seen as bragging, and the shamanic view about power is that if you brag about it, you will lose it.
You might become a shaman by training and experience, but also by birth and initiation.
I believe that the fantastic benefits of knowing how to journey into the Three Worlds (Lower, Upper, and Middle World) and receive guidance is invaluable, whether in the end you want to call yourself a shaman or not.
And you might be wondering, what is a shamanic journey?
What is a Shamanic Journey?
In ceremonies, shamans enter an altered state of consciousness to connect with their helping spirits to receive wisdom.
To do that, they perform what is called a shamanic journey, where they visit the spirit realms. Shamans believe that everything in the world has a spirit and has wisdom to share.
The spirit realm is an invisible reality beyond the physical world. This invisible reality has many names. For example, in Celtic shamanism it is called the “Other World.” In the Australian aboriginal tradition is called “Dreamtime.” Others call it “Non-Ordinary Reality,” or “The Spirit Realm.”
In the course I’m recommending in this post, Ingerman takes you through several guided shamanic journeys, which I found much easier to do than I thought I would. I met and I was aware of my power animals straight away.
Ingerman is a great teacher, the drumming was very relaxing, and she just tells you what to do as you go along with it.
Shamanic Divination and Healing Journeys
One of the traditional roles of the shaman was to retrieve information for individuals and the community. This information was then used for healing.
Fortunately, with the training provided in the course outlined in this post (or with similar shamanism courses) you now have the tools to access your helping spirits using journeying.
Before you start your journey, set the intention of what you wish to know or heal. It might require a bit of practice to begin with, but your helping spirits will provide the answer.
You could ask:
- What do I need to know the most right now about “…” (whatever your issue)
- How can I find the job I need?
- How can I heal the relationships with my husband, mother in law, or whoever you have a problem with?
Please note that you could also use Oracle Cards to ask similar questions.
I like using several methods to receive answers depending on what I feel it would help me most at that moment, or whether I have sufficient time to do it.
I like to consult with oracle cards, also with my higher self and my guides while I meditate, and with my power animals when I journey. All relevant methods of asking for help are important for me. Shamanism is one of nine ways of asking for help from the Universe.
Some people are concerned that shamans use plant medicines (like ayahuasca) to enter the altered state of consciousness that I talked about earlier in this post.
Shamans have used these plants for millennia but taking plants are not the only way they were able to reach an altered state of consciousness.
Plants are not required to communicate with spirits effectively.
I don’t use any type of plants or drugs, and the course I’m recommending in this post does not require or even mention using plant medicine as an option.
You can journey and meet your spirit guides and power animals without them.
In my opinion, shamanic journeying is similar to meditating. You connect to a higher power but you don’t need drugs to make that connection happen.
If you would prefer to start with a book instead of committing to a course, I highly recommend Shamanic Journeying: A Beginner’s Guide, by Sandra Ingerman.
This book provides all the information you need to start journeying, including a CD of recorded shamanic drumming (paperback option).
Where To Find a Good Shamanic Practitioner
Be conscious of the fact that many outstanding shamans are not going to have an Instagram page or a Facebook group and tons of followers (this is of course a generic statement, you can probably find shamans who are an exception).
My point is that if you prefer to see a shaman in person instead of doing an online course, you can find a local shamanic practitioner or teacher in your area visiting this site: www.shamanicteachers com.
Shamanicteachers.com is designed to help you find workshops on shamanic journeying, healing, planetary healing, and how to live a shamanic way of life.
This is an international alliance of dedicated shamanic practitioners and teachers trained by Sandra Ingerman.
Also, The Foundation for Shamanic Studies is dedicated to the preservation, study, and teaching of shamanic knowledge for the welfare of the Planet and its inhabitants.
Their website writes that the Foundation for Shamanic Studies presents the world’s foremost training programs in shamanism and shamanic healing.
They are based on the pioneering work of anthropologist Michael Harner, who brought shamanism to contemporary life in the West after extensive field and cross-cultural investigation, experimentation, and personal practice.
I don’t have experience with them or their courses but I’m sure the Foundation for Shamanic Studies is another reputable site.
Please note these two websites are NOT the ONLY ways to find a good shaman.
You can also Google it and try to find shamans in your area (as I mentioned I’m not sure if you can find all good shamans online).
In any case and regardless of where you find a shaman, please use your discernment and listen to your intuition. Please be sure to read their reviews (if you can find any) and feel comfortable and safe with them.
And without further ado here is the best online shamanism course!
