Spiritual Awakening Bestsellers
If you are looking for awesome spiritual awakening books you are in the right place!
You might have started asking yourself some deep, spiritual questions, or perhaps you are just looking for inspiration. Either way, our spiritual journey is a wonderful personal process.
I have listed in this post my favorites books for spiritual awakening. I turn to them often. Sometimes I have a question and I open a section at random, other times I read the whole book again.
What is Spiritual Awakening
In general terms, spiritual awakening means to have a greater awareness of spiritual reality, a shift in consciousness.
I haven’t been able to find an official definition for it; however, it is commonly accepted that you begin to awaken spiritually when you notice that you are much more than your body, when you start reflecting on your life, and you start asking yourself questions like: What is the point of life?
According to Deepak Chopra, awakening happens when you are no longer living in a dream world where you filter everything through your ego and focusing on the future and the past. Instead, you have an almost simultaneous awareness of your individual self and the connection between that and everything else.
Spiritual awakening should not be a mysterious concept; we all have it within us, ready to be awakened when we are ready.
The following are some signs that you are experiencing a spiritual awakening.
What are the signs of spiritual awakening?
As I mentioned earlier I believe spiritual awakening is a very personal thing; however, there are some common spiritual awakening signs:
- You start spending more time reflecting on the meaning of life, about your experiences and old beliefs, about living and dying. You question if reincarnation could be true?
- As a result of your this you start searching for answers in meditation, coaches, books, and workshops.
- You want a more meaningful life. You feel lost and alone. You are tired of using normal tools to help you feel better, such as food or alcohol.
- Your ideal meaningful life includes a new job, you are tired of your regular job.
- You engage in meditation more often, or you start the process of meditating.
- You lose interest in mundane things, such as gossiping and constant complaining.
- You are okay being yourself without worrying about what others might think. As as result, you stop judging others too.
- Others start to notice the changes in you. You have an aura of more compassion and centeredness.
- You start experiencing higher intuition and synchronistic events.
David Wilcock said:
Synchronicities and coincidences are a form of miracle to remind us that a higher force is guiding our lifes.
Signs of spiritual awakening differ person by person. In my case, I always felt something was missing in my life. I could not understand the reason behind some traumatic experiences, and I was longing to understand the bigger meaning in life.
For some people, major life changes trigger the need for searching inwardly.
Why is spiritual awakening painful?
Spiritual awakening doesn’t need to be painful; however, sometimes it is after we experience a traumatic or distressing event (divorce, major illnesses, etc.) that we start searching for the bigger meaning in life. Sadly, for the most part, these life changes can be painful.
Having said that, sometimes nothing major happens to spark that curiosity; we just arrive at a point in our lives when we start getting a feeling of restlessness. We want to achieve more intangible things in life, such as happiness, contentment, making amends with loved ones, and peace of mind. So the spiritual awakening begins.
The following are the 12 best spiritual awakening books I have read:
Best 12 Spiritual Awakening Books
1. Light Up Your Life, by Diana Cooper
This is one of the first books I bought by this author, about two decades ago, and I loved it. It had a profound effect on me.
Copper takes you through general spiritual and new age principles, starting straight to the point with Chapter 1: We Create Our Lives. From then on she explains some of the spiritual laws, the healing power of forgiveness, releasing negative ties, etc.
I love all of Diana Cooper’s books, and this one certainly fits perfectly as a spiritual awakening book. A gem.
FYI. I have found two versions of this book depending if it is an ebook or a paperback. I have I checked their contents and they are identical to the one I have on my desk.
You can find the ebook and paperback versions in the following links:
Silence: The Power of Quiet in a World Full of Noise, by Thich Nhat Hanh
This book is excellent if you have started to learn about mindfulness, or if you just want to slow down and find some inner peace.
After I read it I felt so much peace, quiet, and gratefulness. I can’t describe it. I have re-read it and it has so many golden nuggets of wisdom.
He makes you think about so many things other than just being mindful. This is one of my favorite quotes from the book:
If we don’t have any purpose feeding us, we are just drifting. There are certain people whom I see only once a year. When I ask them what they have done in the past year, they can’t remember. Sometimes, for most of us, days, whole weeks and even months go by like this, in a fog. This is because we’re not aware of our intention on those days. Sometimes, it seems the only intention in us is just to make it through the day. We rarely offer ourselves the time and space to consider: Am I doing what I most want to be doing with my life? Do I even know what that is?
I highly recommend it.
3. Conversations with God, by Neale Donald Walsch
I have listed this book also in my article 21 books that changed my life forever because it is one of the best ever. This is the review I wrote:
I first read Conversations With God Book 1 about 18 years ago, and I loved it.
About eight years ago I went through a difficult phase in my life and CWG kept coming up in my mind. I then decided to reread it.
This second time it was even more amazing than I remembered. It helped me tremendously.
I felt that I wasn’t alone and that God was really listening. It gave me a lot of comfort.
I also enjoyed reading CWG books 2 and 3, but my favorite of all three is the first one. It must have taken a lot of courage to write a book like this one. I’m very grateful to the author for stepping forward with this information.
From the same author, I also loved Home With God.
This book is such a blessing to the world. It is the only one that I have read several times, and to this day I still refer to it.
4. The Celestine Prophecy, by James Redfield
This book and #8 (The way of the peaceful warrior) are slightly different from the rest because they are novels, but with deep spiritual content.
The Celestine Prophecy, a first-person narrative of spiritual awakening, explains how the world is undergoing a shift in consciousness and the emergency of New Age Spirituality.
The story relates a man’s journey to Peru to track down an ancient manuscript that contains nine insights.
Those insights are the gems of the book.
Regardless of how much spiritual and new-age information you have read in the past, this book is a beautiful awakening to spirituality with mystical experiences.
A great spiritual novel for your library.
5. Journey of Souls, by Michael Newton
The information in Journey of Souls was life-changing for me. It totally changed how I viewed life; I was finally able to start healing from my emotional wounds.
Michael Newton, Ph.D., provides one of the most comprehensively researched sources of information I have found on reincarnation, what happens to us when we die, what transpires between lives, and how we planned several details of our future reincarnation on Earth.
He is considered a pioneer in uncovering the mysteries of life after death using hypnotherapy regression techniques.
Dr. Newton discovered that many of his patients were able to recall past-life memories as well as the planning time spent between reincarnations. With the help of his patients, Dr. Newton has documented in detail all the stages of death and birth.
This is one of those books that will have a long impact on you.
6. Spiritual Growth, by Sanaya Roman
All the books in the Earth series are amazing. This is book 3, but I believe you don’t have to read them in sequence to benefit from them (this is not just my opinion, the author also says in the introduction that all 3 books are not in order and can be read separately).
I recommend them all, but this one especially for spiritual awakening. You will learn a myriad of things with this book:
- Using your intuition and connecting with the Universal Mind
- Creating with light
- Seeing the bigger picture: receiving revelations
- Calming your emotions
- Choosing your reality, creating probable future
And so much more.
There are many good quotes from the book that I wanted to share in this review, so after not being able to pick one I decided to open the book at random (Chapter 5: Seeing the Higher Picture: Receiving revelations)
Imagine you are standing surrounded by heavy fog. It is so heavy that all you can see is a few trees near you. The fog begins to lift, and you can see that you are on a hill. As the fog continues to lift, you can see more hills in the distance, and you soon have a complete picture of all the surrounding areas. This is what it is like as you see the bigger picture, you have an increasingly clear view of the word as seen through the eyes of your Higher Self. With this larger vision, much of your spiritual growth will come from within and be self-directed.
This book has so much wisdom, and awesome meditations at the end of every chapter. Highly recommended!
Also, as I mentioned ealier, I recommend all of the author’s work and her 3 books in the Earth Series. Specifically, I also mention the first one in the series, Living with Joy, in the article that talks about my 21 top spiritual books that changed my life.
7. Your Soul's Plan, By Robert Schwartz
Your Soul’s Plan is a very thought-provoking read. I believe that the more awakened we are the more books like this make sense.
As difficult as it might be to believe, there is order in this universe, and things happen for a reason. Your higher self has a plan that you might not be consciously aware of.
Your Soul’s Plan explores the premise that we are all eternal souls who plan our lives, including our most significant challenges before we’re born for our spiritual growth and soul healing.
The information about their pre-birth plans was obtained by four gifted mediums and channels. Your Soul’s Plan presents the actual conversations people had with their future parents, children, spouses, friends, and other loved ones when they planned their lives together.
I hope you read this book with an open mind and an open heart. It can bring incredible blessings to your life.
I also highly recommend Schwartz’s follow up book Your Soul’s Gift.
8. Way of the Peaceful Warrior, by Dan Millman
This is a wonderful story about the protagonist’s quest for an understanding of the meaning of life.
This novel is about Dan, a world champion gymnast, and University student.
The story begins when Dan meets his powerful 96-year-old mentor Socrates, an all-night gas station attendant. Socrates teaches Dan many lessons on finding happiness and joy in everyday life.
I love books that make me feel empowered after reading them. This is one of them. Some wonderful nuggets: Keep searching for answers. Do your best to enjoy life. If you find pain, use it.
9. Spiritual Psychology; The Twelve Primary Lessons, by Steve Rother
This book answers many life questions.
It is outstanding, but please note this is not light reading like the two novels I have recommended (#4, and #8).
This book goes deep into our pre-life planning sessions (at a soul level, before we are born) and many other spiritual concepts. You can learn a great deal about our human nature.
Among others, these are some things you will learn:
- The seven stages of life
- The nature of our soul contracts before we are born
- What is free will, soul mates, and karmic contracts
- The 12 primary life lessons
I’m going to read this book again this weekend. I picked it up from my library to write this review and I had forgotten how much I loved it.
FYI. When I was looking online at the paperback I was surprised to see the price at $35. Kindle is $7.95 at the time of writing (April 10th). This book is truly amazing but I would not spend $35 on it. I think the publisher only has the kindle version available at the moment and $35 is the resell price.
10. The Universe Has Your Back, by Gabby Bernstein
This is the first book I have read of Gabrielle Bernstein I have really enjoyed it. What I liked the most is the reminder to ask for help and know that the universe will deliver an answer.
I enjoyed the prayers and examples. This is a great awakening book, a realization that we are much more than random humans living on Earth. The Universe does have your back, and she will show you how.
11. A Little Light on the Spiritual Laws, by Diana Cooper
A Little Light on the Spiritual Laws is a must-have book to understand all the spiritual laws which govern life on Earth.
It teaches you the material aspects of living on Earth such as how you can achieve happiness, prosperity, and success in an easy and simple to understand format, while also understanding other spiritual concepts such as the laws of karma, discrimination, and responsibility, which go hand in hand.
This book sheds light on universal truths and contains numerous true stories that are uplifting and support the teachings of the book.
A Little Light on the Spiritual Laws contains 36 Laws split in 4 sections:
- The Basic Laws of Life
- The Laws of Creation
- The Laws of Higher Awareness
- The Laws of Higher Frequency
A must-have, wonderful book.
12. The Heart of The Buddha's Teaching, by Thich Nhat Hanh
When I think about enlightenment I always think of Buddha. I have read some books about Buddhism and this is my favorite.
Buddhism, more than any other religion (or philosophy), brings a lot of wisdom around the nature of suffering and how to overcome it.
Thich Nhat Hanh writes:
After sitting in meditation at the foot of a ficus religiosa, known by Buddhists as the bodhi tree, when the morning star arose, the Buddha realized enlightenment and said, “How amazing that all living beings have the basic nature of awakening, yet they don’t know it. So they drift on the ocean of great suffering lifetime after lifetime.” It means that the potentialities of the Seven Factors of Awakening are already in us, but we don’t know it.
If you are wondering, the 7 factors of awakening are: mindfulness, investigation of phenomena, diligence, joy, ease, concentration, and letting go.
You will also learn about The Four Noble Truths and The Noble Eightfold Path.
This is a wonderful book to learn the core teachings of Buddhism and bring you a higher awakened state.
That’s it! My top favorite awakening books.
