How To Ask for Help from The Universe
I need help often, at work, at home, with my personal relationships… I feel it is never-ending.
I’m so thankful for all the tools I have learned to ask help from the Universe which I’m sharing in this post.
Never underestimate how much your life will improve by just asking for help and following your intuition.
On my darkest days I know I always failed to ask for help.
Or I did ask, but I didn’t follow up or I was ignoring (who knows why!) the guidance I was receiving.
An article from Psychology Today writes how hard it is to ask for help. Although they mention this from a clinical perspective, the truth is that we tend to shy away from asking for help (from our doctor, from our friends, and from the universe).
Once I understood the importance of asking for help my life improved in amazing ways.
This is the most important thing I’m going to tell you in this post: If you want to draw assistance and knowledge from the Field of Consciousness, and/or God, your guides and angels, they need to know that you want help; otherwise, they can’t intercede on your behalf.
There are many ways in which you can ask assistance from the Universe, and I will discuss them in a moment, but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter how. What is important is that you do.
The following methods to request help are not mutually exclusive – in fact, you will benefit more if you use them all.
The following are nine ways you can ask the universe for help:
Prayer is the most common method to ask the universe for what we want, out loud or silently. It doesn’t have to be formal or follow a specific format.
I usually talk a lot to God, my guides and angels in my head as I go along with my day.
I also like to start the day with a prayer, not just necessarily to ask for what I want, but also to be thankful and set the intent for the day.
Intent is where manifestation begins. Clear intention equals clear results.
A long time ago I read a fantastic book by Diana Cooper called A Little Light on Angels, which explained how willing and eager our angels are to help us with everyday tasks, or whatever else we need assistance with.
That book has been updated and it is now called A New Light on Angels.
This book made such an impact on me that I have included it in my post 21 Self-Help Books that Changed My Life Forever.
I started asking as soon as I read about it and saw answers and results almost as fast. It was so awesome!
It also gave me a lot of comfort to know that I was not as alone as I felt.
You don’t have to believe in angels for them to help you. You can call on them at any time.
From a vibrational standpoint, prayer causes us to focus, and by the Laws of Attraction and Attention, everything that is in vibrational harmony with our focus will come to us.
The Law of Attention says that whatever we are giving our attention to manifests in direct relation to the amount of attention we give it.
If we focus on what we don’t want, we will begin to notice it everywhere; if we focus on what we do want, that too will begin to become our reality.
You will notice that those who speak of prosperity, have it. Those who speak most of health, have it. Those who speak most of sickness, have it. Those who speak most of poverty, have it. It is Law.
The Teachings of Abraham (Esther Hicks Books)
With our attention to any subject, the Law of Attraction delivers circumstances, conditions, experiences, other people, and all things that match our dominant vibration.
I love praying because I feel it brings me closer to God, angels, and my guides.
It could be argued that meditation is where you do nothing at all, and therefore you are not “asking” for anything.
However, I have found that when I need something I always benefit from meditating on it. Usually, I get an idea about the next steps to resolve the problem, or I’m guided to read a specific book.
I won’t ask you to take my word for it, but you have probably read on numerous occasions how meditation is an outstanding tool for healing and manifesting.
There are also many studies that have spoken about its efficacy.
Studies have shown that during meditation our heart rate and breath slow down, our body decreases the production of stress hormones, and it increases the production of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and endorphins, which enhance well-being.

I did the surrender meditation (below) and I loved it.
3. Learn Shamanism
Shamanism is an excellent way to ask for help from the Universe (and your higher self & guides).
Learning Shamanism can help you gain greater clarity and insight into any number of life challenges, from medical issues to healing toxic relationships, even business and work struggles.
Shamanism is an ancient spiritual and healing tradition (or practice). It could be the oldest spiritual practice in the world, dating back tens of thousands of years. Cave art 30,000-years-old shows evidence of shamanic practices.
In Shamanism, you listen to a drumbeat or other rhythmic percussion to enter an altered state of consciousness (like in meditation) and access spiritual guidance and healing. Some traditions also use rattles, sticks, and bells.
I have read a couple of Shamanism books (by Sandra Ingerman) and I was really drawn to study Shamanism further, but the workshop I wanted to attend with her in person was fully booked for an entire year.
And I didn’t want to wait for a whole year… So, I took her online course and I’m so glad I did!
Sandra Ingerman is one of the most highly regarded teachers of Shamanism today. She has been teaching and practicing Shamanism for 40 years. Sandra teaches workshops internationally on shamanic journeying, healing, and reversing environmental pollution using spiritual methods.
If you are interested, you can watch this free webinar with Sandra and let your intuition guide you if learning shamanism could be beneficial for you.
4. Connect with the Universe and your angels – Write them letter
I like writing letters, usually addressed to one of the following, or all: God, the Universe, my guides, and angels.
I enjoy writing letters the old-fashioned way with pen and paper because somehow if I use my laptop, I feel detached from the content of the letter. Also, with pen and paper I seem to get more clarity in the process.
A Forbes article written by Nancy Olson explains three ways that handwriting with a pen positively affects your brain. It is very interesting and reaffirms why handwriting, in my opinion, works best.
In the same letter I put everything that is bothering me, and I don’t do many letters per subject.
I keep the letter in a drawer, and then I wait to receive guidance. Sometimes I do nothing else with it, yet at other times I might be guided to do something, such as to call a friend or relative or read a book.
The benefits of writing letters are twofold:
1. We might get clues and answers as we write; thoughts or pictures might come to our mind, which are already a partial or a full answer to our question or problem.
2. We will feel good knowing that we have started the process of doing something about our problems. After having the intent, asking is the second step to give permission to our guides and angels to help.
The difference between writing letters and setting goals is that when we write a letter we might write things down that we can’t control.
For example, if we are worried about a family member’s upcoming operation, we might ask for help for them.
We might also ask that our children be taken care of at school, or we might ask for things that eventually could end up in our goals plan (things we can control, like achieving a specific educational requirement or manifesting a dream holiday).
At the same time, you can always ask people what you need to know.
If you want a promotion, ask your boss what it takes to be promoted in your company.
Bear in mind that anything you want to do in life has probably already been accomplished by somebody else, and I mean anything you have an interest in: writing and self-publishing a book, overcoming anxiety or health issues, starting a business, or raising a child.
All these people have often documented the process to become successful, and it is likely that they have written a book about it, or they provide workshops, online courses, or seminars, or they can be contacted for mentoring.
Go and find out how they did it.

5. Open a book at random
You can mentally ask the universe: “What do I need to hear the most today about this topic?”
Then go to your bookshelf and pick any book or books you feel guided to (I find that, for this exercise, self-help books are usually better than novels or biographies).
Ask your question in your mind and ask the book to answer it. Then open the book at random. I love doing this and getting awesome feedback.
It will not be a deep answer like doing an oracle card reading for example, but many times is just a different confirmation or something I needed to hear.
6. Use Tarot or Oracle Deck Cards
I love tarot and angel cards.
I own numerous decks and I find them very useful, but if you are new to them let me clarify a few things first:
– Oracle cards work depending on the intent of the author and our own intent. Some cards will feel heavy or scary while others will feel a lot lighter and more angelic. Use your intuition when making a purchase.
– Answers depend a lot on interpretation, and most importantly, on how the question was asked.
– Most importantly, don’t give your power away to the cards. Regardless of the answers that you get don’t let them overrule your intuition. Most of the time they just serve you to validate what you intuitively know.
This post 7 Best Oracle Card Decks for Beginners offers multiple tips on how to choose the best oracle deck. I also discuss if oracle cards can predict the future, what and how to ask your questions, and much more.

7. Ask the Universe and your guides for a sign
Asking for a sign works particularly well when you are seeking encouragement that you are going on the right path, or you are making the right decision.
The sign may come through synchronistic events, in the form of a conversation with a stranger, something you read, or perhaps a photo you see on Instagram.
Start to notice patterns and look for recurring themes.
As I mentioned at the beginning of the post the most important thing is that you ask for help, and then a sign.
Make sure to ask in your mind or in writing. Our guides and angels always listen and will provide the best sign you need.
An excellent book about that is The Universe Has Your Back, by Gabby Bernstein. You will also probably enjoy this video she made about How to Talk to Your Spirit Guides.
8. Use a pendulum
A good pendulum can be very helpful, particularly when you are asking the universe to help you with yes and no answers.
I only own one pendulum which I bought about 20 years ago in Spain. The pendulum came with the book as one item.
I have not been able to find it again for purchase so I’m unable to recommend that one. But there are many good pendulums in new age stores (mind-body-spirit type of stores) or online in Amazon. Some of these pendulums are very pretty and have great reviews.
I apologize if this is obvious to you but please don’t use a pendulum, or kinesiology (next way to ask for help) for yes and no answers that could be life-threatening or have serious implications, like asking if you or your child is allergic to nuts. Please consult a professional.
9. Ask the Universe for help with Kinesiology
Kinesiology, or muscle testing, can be excellent too for yes and no answers.
The muscle testing response is a simple “yes” or “no” to a specific stimulus.
It is usually done by a person holding out an extended arm, and the tester pressing down on it, using light pressure. Usually, the test person holds something to be tested in the hand of the other arm; for example, an envelope with a statement inside.
The tester tries to press the arm down, and says to the person, “Resist.”
If the item to be tested is beneficial to the person (or true), the arm will remain strong with the recognition of truth; the person is able to resist the pressure.
If it is not beneficial, has an adverse effect, or doesn’t have existence within the field of consciousness, the arm will go weak; the arm of the person is unable to resist the pressure (in this case, the envelope might contain a false statement).
You can try this technique at home with a friend or partner to get the answers you need.
You can also self-test following these techniques:
1) Self-test with your fingers
Place your left hand palm up (if you are left handed use your right hand). Connect the tip of your thumb with the tip of your little finger.
Now ask yourself a question (start with an easy yes/no question you know the answer to). After asking you press your fingers (tip to tip). Now, with the same amount of pressure try to pull them apart with your other hand. (With the other hand you have also connected your fingers, this time your thumb and your index)
It is probably easier to see it in video: the following one is great, by Making Willow 4U
2) Self-test with your body
You can bring a product or an envelope with a statement close to your heart, close your eyes, and ask your body to sway forward if the answer is yes, or backwards if the answer is no.

Final thoughts: What else can you do if you have asked the universe for help but nothing seems to work?
I find that writing letters is usually the fastest way to receive what I need (whether I want something physical or just emotional improvement— like feeling better).
Sometimes I feel depressed and that nobody is listening, but I know this is never the case, the universe always listens and answers.
The problem might be that I need to take my actions a step further.
There is a big difference between requesting punctual help, for example, to give a great presentation at work, and requesting help for bigger life goals like finding your purpose, improving your health, or your financial situation.
Also, if for example, you are asking to make amends with a friend, you might need to do some energy work to achieve that (see recommended post below).
Bear in mind that usually, after we ask, we will be guided to do something else to achieve or heal what we are asking for. And that is the guidance, the answer.
I only write about and provide tools that I had great success with. These posts might help:
- For personal relationship issues I love using Ho’oponopono. It is a Hawaiian method for healing. You can find it in 6 Proven Tools to Heal Difficult relationships article.

Please always remember that just asking sets into motion a lot of invisible help that might create synchronistic events that get you exactly what you need. Always remember to ask!
